Peter Janssen, known as “the Younger” (1906–1979, born Peter Tamme Weyert), was the grandson of Peter Janssen the Elder, director of the Düsseldorf Academy of Art. After studying at the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts and in Paris, he held his first solo exhibition in 1932 at Alfred Flechtheim’s gallery. He was a member of the Junges Rheinland, the Rheinische Sezession, the Neue Rheinische Sezession, the Rheingruppe, the Deutscher Künstlerbund, and the Neue Gruppe in Munich. After the war, he was appointed to the Berlin University of the Arts in 1957. — Slightly worn and dusty, with occasional light crazing; the narrow wooden frame is more heavily worn and shows some loss of paint.
