Huth, Willy Robert. Untitled. (Southern City). Oil on painting board. Monogrammed and dated lower right. 1946. Image size: 24 x 31 cm. Framed: 35 x 41 cm. Willy Robert Huth (1890–1977) is considered one of the outstanding artists of the “Lost Generation” of Expressive Realism. After training at the School of Applied Arts in Erfurt and in Stuttgart under Paul Kaemmerer—where he met W. Baumeister and A. Hölzel—he worked as a freelance painter in Berlin beginning in 1919. There he met Schmidt-Rottluff, Heckel, Pechstein, and Grosz, who were part of his circle of friends. Under the Nazis, he was banned from painting, and all of his works were destroyed in a bombing raid. From 1947 to 1957, he was a professor at the Berlin University of the Arts. — The painting is slightly worn, rarely shows minimal yellowing, and rarely has small spots.
