Hauptmann, Ivo. Untitled. (The Düsseldorf). Mixed media with pen, ink, pastel chalk, and pencil on grid-patterned tracing paper. Circa 1952. Sheet dimensions: approx. 67 x 54 cm. This is presumably a preparatory study for a painting by Hauptmann (1886–1973) from 1952. - The sheet is generally browned and heavily curled; the tracing paper is brittle; there are longer tears (approx. 5–20 cm), particularly along the top and bottom edges of the sheet; the edges of the sheet are unevenly trimmed; there are several pinholes at all four corners of the sheet; on the reverse, the sheet is mounted in the mat at three points; a distinct light-colored border is visible on the mat backing; the drawing materials, particularly the ink, have bled through and are visible on the backing.
