Ausleger, Rudolf. Untitled. (Window Still Life). Oil on stiff painting board. Signed and dated "Ausleger 29" in the lower right corner. Dimensions of the painting board: 74 x 99 cm. Framed: 87 x 112 cm. Early large-format still life by Rudolf Ausleger (1897–1974) from the collection of Peter Hopf. - While serving as a soldier in World War I, Ausleger met the artists Georg Tappert, Karl Jakob Hirsch, and Lothar Homeyer, who would go on to form the Berlin “November Group” after the war ended. Ausleger first attended the Reimann School, later studied at the State Art School under Tappert and Bernhard Hasler, and became a member of the November Group himself. He participated in numerous exhibitions both in Germany and abroad. His circle of friends included Otto and Rudolf Möller, Arthur Segal, Karl Jakob Hirsch, and Lothar Homeyer. In the 1920s, he was influenced by Synthetic Cubism, with still lifes becoming his preferred subject. - Peter Hopf (1937–2004), director of the Berlin Art Office in Wedding since 1972, organized major exhibitions in 1975 and 1980 featuring works by Rudolf Ausleger, which contributed significantly to his rediscovery. - The painting board is slightly warped; in very good condition. - Provenance: Hopf Collection, Grisebach Berlin (2006); since then in a private Berlin collection. - This lot is not suitable for shipping as a package. The buyer must arrange for pickup or transport via a shipping company.
