Zingg, Adrian. Dresden as Seen from the Pieschen Corner. Gouache and watercolor over etching. Barely legible pencil inscription and date on the reverse, at the lower edge. Circa 1810. Sheet dimensions: 31 x 44 cm. See: Museums of the City of Dresden, Dresden Municipal Gallery, Inventory No.: 1978/k 204. - This beautiful cityscape of Dresden, created by Adrian Zingg (1734–1816), a pioneer of modern Dresden landscape painting, depicts the silhouette of the “Florence of the Elbe” as seen from the right bank, featuring the Augustus Bridge, the Frauenkirche, the Royal Palace with the Court Church, and Brühl’s Terraces in the background. In the coloring—which is likely a later addition—the figurative elements in particular provide high-contrast color accents against the vivid green landscape. - Slightly browned and stained, with some cuts filled in, two small missing areas at the bottom left.
