Advertisement - Gieger, H. V., Bion Succ. Catalog of bronze fireplace items. With 54 original photographs. Vintage albumen prints. Mounted. Paris, self-published, before 1899. Original cloth binding with title label on the cover (scuffed and bumped, slightly loose). The photographs mostly include small labels providing information on the size of the objects and the pattern number. Gieger called himself “Successeur de Victor Bion” (1652/1655–1733), that is, the successor to the famous Parisian bronze caster and instrument maker Bion. This catalog documents a different product group: fireplace accessories—fireplace tools, fireplace surrounds, and fireplace grates—in distinctly historicist, opulent, “typically French” styles: Louis XIV, Louis XVI, Empire, Egyptienne, etc. Although the album is dated 1899 on the front cover, most of the prints are likely a few years older. — The backing paper is wavy, somewhat dusty, with some soot marks along the edges; the prints are rarely slightly faded; overall, in good condition. #
