Klimt, Gustav. Lucian’s *Conversations of the Hetaerae*. 7 (of 15) photolithographic plates. Probably Leipzig, Zeitler, 1907. Sheet dimensions: approx. 28 x 35.5 cm each. Hofstätter, p. 214—Eyssen, p. 177—Garvey/Wick, p. 130—Langer, p. 153. - Hayn/Gotendorf IV, 294 - Schauer I, 158: “the bold edition of Lucian’s *Conversations of the Hetaerae* (1907) with the exquisitely ingenious drawings by Gustav Klimt.” - The seven erotic plates likely originate from the *Conversations of the Heiresses*, published in 1907, “printed by the W. Drugulin printing house in Leipzig in a run of 450 numbered copies. Gustav Klimt’s drawings are reproduced as facsimile photostats.” (Colophon). - Klimt’s erotic drawings, reproduced using the phototype process, depict sexual acts such as masturbation and lesbian love, as in the “Seated Female Half-Nude with Spread Legs” (1904). - The edges of the removed sheets are trimmed on three sides; on the reverse, they are firmly mounted in the corners onto mat boards; some are slightly creased.
