Blanquet, Albert. *The Deer Park of Louis XV*. A novel of manners. Translated into German by Dr. Wolfram. Complete in 11 installments. With several text illustrations. Vienna, Geitler, 1871. 528 pp. 15.5 x 11.5 cm. Original printed paperbacks. Braune Bibliothek. — Hayn-Got. IV, 281. — The somewhat secluded Deer Park in Versailles was used by Louis XV as a sort of secret brothel, which also plays a major role in the works of the Marquis de Sade. The Deer Park (Le Parc au Cerf) was established around 1750 in the Eremitage at Versailles, in the district known as Parc-aux-Cerfs, by the Marquise de Pompadour for Louis XV. To maintain her influence, she provided him with this new form of entertainment. The madam of the brothel was a certain Bertrand; the supplier of young girls was named Lebel. At first, there were only two or three women in the house. After Pompadour’s death, it became very crowded. Numerous rumors circulated about the orgies held in the Parc aux Cerfs, which, in any case, are said not to have been exaggerated. Albert Blanquet (1826–1875), who published a whole series of novels about prostitution in Paris, devotes considerable attention to the pleasure-seeking lifestyle of Louis XV. — Uncut. — Good copy. *
