Bindings—Dedicated on the occasion of the 50th birthday by the employees of the Ottakring Iron Foundry and Machine Factory Reinhard Fernau & Co., Vienna, on January 21, 1894. An exceptionally elaborate luxury album by the court bookbinder August Klein in Vienna. Leather with rich blind embossing, openwork metal corner fittings (copper, cast, silver-plated, and gold-plated), center panel featuring laurel branches and laurel wreaths with two symbolic depictions (crossed tools and a steam engine). Above these are gilded initials EF (ligated) for General Director Ernst Fernau (1844–1902), an engraved date label, and a punched brass clasp. Gold edging on all pages. Back cover with 4 florally engraved nails. Set in original canvas slipcase (the slipcase is bumped, and the folds are torn). A magnificent and highly prestigious photo album presented as a birthday gift from the senior administrative officials to their boss. The Ottakringer Iron Foundry and Machine Factory manufactured machine tools, locomotive wheel lathes, drilling machines, and other equipment. It was founded in 1862 by Reinhard Fernau as a machine tool factory, took over the Carl Pfaff Machine Factory around 1870, and merged in 1894 with the firm Gutjahr & Müller (Budapest) to form Vulkan Maschinenfabrik A.G. Vienna-Budapest. The portraits are from the studio of the famous photographer György Klösz of Budapest. — Clasp is loose; the interior is only occasionally slightly dusty; overall, in good condition. *
