Beumelburg, Jan. Encyclopedia. 4 ring binders with numerous photo and text cards, mounted in a wooden case. Brandenburg, Verwandlungsamt für Kunst + Wandel, ca. 2000. 49.5 x 37 cm (box) and 23 x 16 cm (ring binder). "Condensing objects of everyday life into a kind of personal ‘encyclopedia’—this idea has long permeated Jan Beumelburg’s work, and since 1998 he has devoted himself almost exclusively to connecting objects taken from life—often disparate ones—and, in a sense, ‘short-circuiting’ them... The resulting works combine—sometimes in a highly ironic way—photographs, drawings, objects, texts, found objects, rediscovered items, and purchased items, placing them side by side as equals.” (Beumelburg). - The ring binders are titled and contain collections of materials on: Things That Can Fly & Things That Can’t, Fish, Matters of Faith, Insects, the Cosmos, Reading, Goals, Plants, and Puzzles. - The case is slightly dusty, but otherwise in good condition.
