Avant-garde - Eastern Europe - Stosic, Josip. Nacrt za pet mojih i jednu vasu pjesmu. With numerous stamps. Zagreb, Centar Sveucilista u Zagrebu, Josip Stosic, 1976. 23 x 21 cm. Original printed and stamped cardboard cover (slightly browned, edges rubbed). A conceptual poem, stamped on the blank spaces of a Croatian edition of Mallarmé’s poem *Bacanje kocki nikad nece ukinuti slucaj* (“A Roll of the Dice”). — Endpaper with a signed and dated dedication by Stosic dated July 21, 1978. - First published in 1897, the poem became known for its exploration of the spatial arrangement of poetry and for shifting poetry into the realm of the visual. The poem served as the visual-semantic foundation for Stosic’s book. The reader interprets Stosic’s poems according to the instructions the artist has superimposed over Mallarmé’s poem, thereby encouraging the reader’s participation and creativity. - Josip Stosic (1935–2009), while still a high school student, self-published *Derdan* (Necklace) in 1951—the first book of concrete poetry in the former Yugoslavia. His poems were banned that same year. - Interior in good condition.
