Avant-garde - Eastern Europe - Grupa sestorice autora (ed.). Issue No. 75. Featuring numerous original works by various artists. Zagreb, self-published, 1982. 16 leaves. 30.5 x 21.5 cm. Original brochure illustrated with a silkscreen print (slightly stained, staples slightly oxidized). Published by the artist group Grupa sestorice autora: Boris Demur, Zeljko Jerman, Vlado Martek, Mladen Stilinovic, Sven Stilinovic, and Fedor Vucemilovic. - This booklet contains contributions by Vlasta Delimar, Zeljko Jerman, Vlado Martek, Darko Simicic, Boris Demur, Matjaz Hanzek, Boris Ivandic, Zlatko Kutnjak, Mangelos, Radomir Masic, Branka Stankovic, Mladen Stilinovic, Jaroslav Supek, Balint Szombathy, Vlatko Vincek, and Filimir. The cover photo, “Changing,” is by Vlasta Delimar from the performance “Wedding.” - From 1978 to 1984, seventeen issues of “May’75” were published. In addition to the original six artists, over fifty artists from the former Yugoslavia, Germany, the former Czechoslovakia, and Italy, as well as from other countries, were invited to contribute their work to the magazine. Each issue contained original artworks, ready-made artworks, silkscreen prints, texts, concepts, projects, viewpoints, ironic and political opinions, collages, and photographs. Occasionally, pages were reproduced using screen printing in the studio of Zeljko Jerman and Vlasta Delimar. Most pages, however, were produced by hand. “Maj’75,” which was self-funded by the artists, was typically distributed free of charge to other artists, friends, critics, or passersby during exhibition events. Later, distribution took place mostly through personal contacts and by mail. The magazine was never sold in bookstores or galleries. “Maj’75” was thus completely unofficial. On the one hand, this had the advantage of circumventing censorship; on the other hand, however, it also had the disadvantage that the magazine remained virtually unknown outside a small circle. — Well preserved inside.
