Poland - Raulin, Ernest. Gdynia. Twelve original photographs. Vintage prints. Silver gelatin. Circa 1936. The prints measure 30 x 40 cm, signed “E. Raulin” in ink in the lower right corner and stamped on the reverse with the photographer’s stamp “Ernest Raulin, Gdynia, ul. Slaska 51/I m.45" and a handwritten image description in Polish. After World War I, the German Baltic Sea town of Gdingen became the Polish port city of Gdynia, Poland’s primary port. - The views, described in detail in Polish on the reverse, mostly show port facilities and the shipyard, cargo ships at the quay, harbor cranes, tugs, port buildings and warehouses, and the Union oil mill. Raulin photographed for the maritime authority and primarily documented seascapes, harbor views, and local events. - The corners of the prints show minimal crease marks; otherwise, they are in good condition.
