Germany - Southern Germany - Two albums containing a total of 66 old, predominantly German architectural views in original photographs. Vintage albumen prints. Mounted. Circa 1865–1875. Approx. 38 x 39 cm and 41 x 32 cm. Period half-leather binding with cover label (worn and scuffed). Print sizes range from 20 x 14 cm, but most are large-format, up to 33 x 26 cm. Features buildings with a focus on Central and Southern Germany, but also includes images from the Tyrol and Vienna regions: town halls, churches, townhouses, e.g., Nuremberg (including three photographs with a blind stamp by the photographer Ferd. Schmidt, Nuremberg), Ulm (cathedral), Munich (including the Old Town Hall), Regensburg, Frankfurt am Main (cathedral before the fire of 1867), Hildesheim (Knochenhauer House), Stein am Rhein (row of houses), a few photographs from Italy or the Netherlands. Occasionally with a printed caption; more often, a description has been added in pencil below. Three photographs reproduce design drawings: Votive Church for Vienna, unsigned design for the new spire of the old Cologne City Hall, partial view of the planned Cologne Cathedral, signed by V(incenz) Statz beneath the illustration, dated March 27, 1853. - The paper is slightly wavy; the prints are partly somewhat stained and faded, with occasional small marginal discoloration and corner losses, but overall still in good condition. #
