Europe - Russia - Izmajlovich, Vladislav M. Artistically designed commemorative sheet (acknowledgment) from the St. Petersburg firm Berger & Wirth AG for a senior employee. Watercolor and metallic paints (illustrations, borders, cartouches, initials, calligraphy), typographic print on a vertically folded sheet of paper (2 leaves). Signed and dated in the lower right corner. Leningrad, 1926. Sheet dimensions (folded): 40 x 29 cm. After completing his academic training, the artist V. Izmajlovich (1872–1959) initially worked on studies and portraits for the court (including one of Grand Duke Vladimir Aleksandrovich). After the Revolution, he produced one of the first portraits of V. Lenin from life and primarily created watercolors and pastels. In addition to a St. Petersburg factory, his illustrations depict, in two cartouches, the emblems of the company and the People’s Commissariat for Transportation (for the Transpechat’ Trust). The company Berger & Wirth Handelsgesellschaft für den Osten AG, which had been officially engaged in the manufacture of printing supplies in St. Petersburg since 1897, was forced toward the end of the New Economic Policy (NEP) to restructure its increasingly difficult concession business in Russia, which also led to conflicts with the authorities. The concession was finally revoked in 1933. This letter of thanks was signed in ink by 16 German and Russian employees. - The edges of the title page are slightly browned; there are a few minimal crease marks and minor tears at the ends of the spine fold. Well preserved; likely a one-of-a-kind item. *
