Contemporary red morocco bindings with rich gilt spines, gold-embossed cover borders, moiré silk endpapers, and gilt edges (gilding worn off, slightly rubbed; joints and one capital restored). First Greek edition of Kapodistrias’s correspondence during his tenure as the first president of Greece following Ottoman rule. The text is based on the French “Correspondence du Comte J. Capodistrias,” published in 1839 by his secretary, the Swiss philhellene Elie Ami Bétant. The translation was provided by the philologist and politician Michael G. Schinas. - Provenance: Ex-libris “Gebrüder Dumba,” the wholesalers Michael Dumba, director of the Austrian National Bank and Greek consul general (1828–94), and his brother Nikolaus, a prominent patron of the arts (1830–1900). The front covers also bear a gold-stamped name inscription by Michael Dumba’s brother-in-law, Konstantin M. Curti. A Greek circular stamp “PS” appears several times in the text. - Browning glue streaks between the silk and white endpapers; some pages are slightly browned and have foxing, but overall a clean copy. *
