Canivets—Three pointed-tip leaves made of parchment surrounding gouache-painted medallions with flowers and scrolls. Probably southern Germany, second half of the 18th century. 9–10 x 5–6 cm. Delicate pen-and-ink work featuring symbols of Jesus. - 1. Large tulip bloom with leaves and additional buds; inscription: “Do as the flowers do—turn to Jesus.” - Dusty; small losses; one larger loss in the lower right corner. - 2. Cross with two flaming hearts and one radiant heart; inscription: “By the cross, be at peace—there is no pain there.” - Large edge loss at the top, along with other small losses, backed with gauze. - 3. Heart with little clouds of sighs on petals, surrounded by buds. Inscription: “When I think of you, I send out many sighs.” - Edge tear at the top, also secured with gauze.
