VD18 11192879 - Herzeleide/Henning 42. - Jacques Égide Duhan de Jandun (1685–1746) was the tutor of Frederick the Great and later served as librarian for the House of Brunswick in Blankenburg as well as a Prussian Privy Councilor in the Foreign Office (Legation Councilor) in Berlin. Duhan’s educational influence was instrumental in shaping Frederick the Great’s lifelong interest in French culture and way of life. Just how much Frederick continued to value his former teacher even in adulthood is evident from the numerous, truly heartfelt letters he wrote to Duhan; in a poem composed in his honor, Frederick even refers to Duhan as his “true father.” - Stained in places. *
