Nopitsch, Carl Daniel Eberhard Friedrich. The Most Important Events of My Life. Autobiography written in his own hand (in the form of a keepsake box) with complete copies of his school, college, and examination certificates as a pharmacist and physician. No place or year (probably Baunach, ca. 1830). Title page and 4 section headings on tinted paper; 74 (recte 75) numbered leaves, written on both sides, with gilt edges; 1 friendship page. German and Latin cursive script in brown-black pen. 7.5 x 14 cm. Contemporary leather case with gilded spine; front cover featuring an inlaid silk-printed view of Dresden under glass; gilded raised bands and inner edges (glass cracked and with a chip; metal clasp and edge strips defective; inner hinge broken). According to Hirsch-H. IV, 382, Nopitsch was “born at the end of the 18th century” in Nördlingen; he studied medicine in Erlangen until 1825 and practiced first in Nuremberg, then as a district court physician in Baunach until his death in 1838. His records specify his date of birth as September 12, 1793, and extend through 1827. He describes his background and school years (including copies of his baptism and confirmation certificates as well as his 1809 Lyceum graduation certificate). This is followed by pharmacy certificates from 1814–1819 in Lauf, Gunzenhausen, and Nuremberg, and finally his enrollment at the University of Erlangen in November 1819. From there comes an extensive collection of lecture attendance certificates with reproductions of the signatures, including those of Schubert, Henke, Loschge, Pfaff, Martius, Kastner, and Fleischmann. In the summer semester of 1823, Nopitsch studied in Würzburg; in August, he passed his oral examination in Erlangen (questions and theses reproduced in full). In January 1825, he left the university and spent half a year at the veterinary school in Munich. At the end of 1825, the city of Nuremberg initially denied him a license to practice, which was then granted in 1826. On June 16, 1827, Nopitsch wrote “a letter of request to obtain a position as a royal physician.” No further information is available regarding his time in Baunach. — Slightly discolored, with occasional spots; generally in good condition.
