Decorative South German prayer book. A copy based on a 1583 original, written in clearly legible handwriting with pagination. The first three pages, the section headings, and the initials are written in multiple colors and adorned with hand-painted borders. The copperplate engravings—each featuring a two-line prayer beneath a depiction of the Virgin Mary—are trimmed to the border and mounted on separate leaves. The section “Short Liturgical Hours” (pp. 247–318) is bound after p. 174. — A beautiful copy, with only faint finger stains in places along the page margins. *
