Late 19th century Mouth-blown, tubular glass cylinders on a round base with a glass stopper featuring a spherical knob, twelve of these are additionally sealed with the original oiled paper. Each glass cylinder also bears a color-printed label bearing the inscription 'B.ANILIN & SODA FABRIK STUTTGART,' on which the respective color pigment is handwritten in ink. Height approximately 13 cm each. The Badische Anilin- und Sodafabrik (today known worldwide as BASF) was founded on April 6, 1865, in Mannheim but moved to Ludwigshafen am Rhein later that same year. In 1873, BASF merged with the Stuttgart-based paint factory G. Siegle & Co., which had successfully specialized in mineral, lacquer, and ceramic paints. The important management of BASF's sales department initially remained in Stuttgart under Gustav Siegle. In 1889, Gustav Siegle, the son of Heinrich Siegle, bought back the Stuttgart company buildings from BASF and started producing mineral color pigments and varnishes. Similar glass cylinders can be found, for example, in the Color Experience Museum in Bradford, England.
