Nora Davison, British 1855-1950- Dutch pinks on the beach; pencil and watercolour on paper, signed 'Nora Davison' (lower left), 11 x 20.2 cm. Provenance: with Martyn Gregory, London [VB 347]. Note: Davison specialised in painting marine scenes before taking up residence above the old Post Office on the High Street in Eton in 1913. By then in her late 50s, she began a new phase of her career, capitalising on local demand for views of the streets and buildings of Eton College. Her works were sold primarily to Eton Masters, pupils and their families. The present work is typical of her earlier marine subjects.
