British School, early 19th century- The Old Admiralty, London; pencil and watercolour on paper, 21 x 32.8 cm. Provenance: with Martyn Gregory, London [VGH 87]. Note: The Old Admiralty, between Whitehall and Horse Guards, was designed in the 1720s by Thomas Ripley. It has been suggested that the handling of this work bears similarities to works by John Samuel Hayward (1778–1822). Indeed, a similar work by Hayward of All Saints Church, Southampton, was offered at Sotheby's, London on 28 April 1988, lot 572.
