David Cox, OWS, British 1783-1859- A wooded valley with a distant castle; pencil and sepia wash on paper, indistinctly inscribed (lower left), 26.8 x 18.8 cm. Provenance: with Martyn Gregory, London [VF 943a]. He was also a major figure in the Birmingham School of landscape artists, alongside Thomas Baker (1809-1864) and Thomas Creswick (1811-1869).
