Alfred Frederick William Hayward, Canadian 1856-1939- A pair of floral still lifes: Narcissi in a vase; and Pink blossom in a jug on a ledge; oil on canvas, signed and dated 'A F W Hayward 1882' (the first upper left, the second lowerleft), each 38.5 x 20.5 cm., two (2). Provenance: Anon. sale, Christie's, London, 15 November 2012, lot 39 (£875). Private Collection, UK. Note: Hayward set off from Canada for Europe in 1856, and was living in London by 1881. He studied at the West London School of Art, and at the Royal Academy Schools, and subsequently worked largely as a flower painter. He exhibited widely, including at London's Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists, the Fine Art Society, and the Grosvenor Gallery, among many others.
