James Bolivar Manson, British 1875-1945- View of a wooded landscape at twilight; oil on board, bears later inscription 'J.B. MANSON / 1908?' verso, 23 x 28 cm. (unframed). Provenance: Anon. sale, Christie's, London, 6 November 1981, lot 62. with The Pyms Gallery. Note: Manson was a member of the Camden Town Group, which most famously included contemporaries such as Walter Sickert (1860-1942) and Spencer Gore (1878-1914), as well as the London Group and the New English Arts Club. He also studied as Director of the Tate from 1930 to 1938. Similarly atmospheric scenes by Manson include a work which sold at Dreweatts on 19 October 2022, lot 45 (£1,800 hammer), as well as a charming 'View of Alfriston' which sold at Olympia on 12 October 2025, lot 406 (£2,200 hammer).
