Circle of Augustus Leopold Egg, British 1816-1863- Portrait of a gentleman, seated, with an open account book and quill; oil on canvas, 91 x 71.5 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: The present work recalls Egg's distinctive portraits, characterised by a strong light from the upper left of the composition which highlights the sitter's features. Similar works by Egg include his portrait of Henry Charles Hamilton which sold at Christie's, London, on 15 March 2012, lot 104, or his portrait of William Powell Frith which sold at Roseberys on 22 November 2023, lot 140. This approach is also evident in a painting by Egg in the collection of Harris Museum & Art Gallery [PRSMG : P215], and another in the Mercer Art Gallery [HARAG : 50].
Delivery is optional. You can use the carrier of your choice. The stated price does not include the lot price or the auction house fees.
