Archibald Thorburn, ARA, Scottish 1860-1935- Mallard; pencil and watercolour heightened with white on paper, signed 'A. Thorburn' (lower left), 41.5 x 64 cm. Provenance: with The Brook Street Art Gallery, London. Private Collection, UK. Note: Thorburn was a prominent and prolific illustrator of avian subjects, and collaborated with contemporaries George Edward Lodge (1860-1954) and John Guille Millais (1865-1931) on publications including the 'Natural History of British Feeding Ducks', 'British Diving Ducks' and 'British Game Birds'. This striking depiction of a bird in flight is typical of Thorburn's dynamic compositions, and recalls, for example, the artist's watercolours which sold at Dreweatts on 11 June 2025, lot 316 (£5,500 hammer), and at Christie's, London, on 15 December 2017, lot 151 (£13,750).
Delivery is optional. You can use the carrier of your choice. The stated price does not include the lot price or the auction house fees.
