Bessie Bamber, British c.1870-1910- Two tabby kittens; oil on opaline glass, signed with initials and numbered 'B.B. / 106' (lower right), 13 x 16.8 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: Little is known of Bamber's life, and it remains uncertain whether 'Bamber' was her maiden or married name. She is recorded as working in Liverpool from the 1880s until around 1910 and is thought to have been born in Birkenhead. Bamber specialised in paintings of cats and kittens, although she occasionally depicted puppies. Working predominantly in oils, she preferred to paint from stuffed animals rather than live ones.
