Edward Duncan, RWS, British 1803-1882- Sailing barges on a canal; pencil and watercolour heightened with white on paper, signed and dated 'E. Duncan / 1847' (lower left), 28.6 x 63.4 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: Duncan was a member of the Royal Watercolour Society and received royal patronage from Queen Victoria. He was best known for his depictions of coastal views and shipping scenes. The present work is typical of his oeuvre and recalls a work which sold at Bonhams, London, on 13 March 2024, lot 42 (£5,760), as well as another panoramic view which sold at the same rooms on 30 April 2025, lot 91 (£1,664).
