Henry Baynes, British 1800-1886- View of the South facade of Hampton Court Palace from the Thames; oil on canvas, signed and inscribed 'H.Baynes. / Pinxit.' (lower left), 45.7 x 60.8 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: Baynes' output was highly varied, with the few other known oils by the artist including a painting of the meeting of Wellington and Blucher after the Battle of Waterloo in the National Army Museum [NAM. 1962-06-18], and a portrait of a brown and white shorthorn bull in the collection of the York Castle Museum [YORCM : AA9915]. The present composition appears to be based on a print of the same view published by H. Mandeville in c.1855.
