Follower of Jan van Ossenbeeck, Dutch c.1624-1674- Landscape with cattle and sheep accompanied by figures and a dog, with farm buildings above; oil on panel, 50 x 68 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: The present composition very much recalls the paintings of van Ossenbeeck, a member of the Bentvueghels, an association of Dutch and Flemish artists who were active in Rome, including central figures such as Pieter van Laer (1599-c.1642) and Jan Both (c.1615-1642). The Bentveughels' distinctive landscapes exhibit the characteristics of both artistic traditions, with the rustic simplicity of Dutch pastoral scenes depicted amongst sweeping Italianate vistas. Similar works by van Ossenbeeck include his paintings which sold at Van Ham Kunstauktionen, Cologne, on 9 April 2005, lot 1624, and at Dorotheum, Vienna, on 5 November 1992, lot 313.
