After Raphaello Sanzio da Urbino, called Raphael, Italian 1483-1520- Madonna della Sedia; oil on canvas, feigned tondo, partially indistinctly signed and dated 'Fernando Cadoro[?] / 187...[?]' (lower right), 39.3 x 39.5 cm. Provenance: Private Collection. Note: The present work is a copy after Raphael's painting, also known as the 'Madonna della Seggiola', in the collection of the Palazzo Pitti, Florence [1912 n.151]. This is one of the artist's most celebrated and enduring images, and conveys a palpable sense of the Madonna's maternal affection for the Christ Child, whilst also exhibiting Raphael's distinctive embrace of the tondo format.
