Manner of the Master of the Annunciation with Unicorn Polyptych, 19th century- The Annunciation; oil with gilt paint on carved panel, 77.2 x 61.4 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: The present work is after a votive image which was produced around 1500 for the Bernardine Church in Wrocław, modern-day Poland, by an unknown Silesian painter who was evidently heavily influenced by German and Flemish artists of the late 15th century. The original painting is now housed in the National Museum in Warsaw [Śr.265 and Śr.265 MNW]. The composition also recalls the scenes depicted in the altarpiece, known as the Annunciation with the Unicorn Polyptych, painted for the nearby St Elizabeth’s Church in Wrocław, and now also in the collection of the National Museum in Warsaw [Śr.124 NMW].
