CARLOS CÁNOVAS (Hellín, Albacete, 1951). “Cizur Menor.” Color photograph on paper. Silver gelatin. In good condition. Measurements: 53 x 67 cm; 70 x 85 cm (frame). The image belongs to the most characteristic aspect of Carlos Cánovas’s body of work: the observation of the peripheral landscape and the transitional spaces between nature and urbanization. The tree provides an organic counterpoint to the regularity of the houses in the background, while the light and the expansive sky lend this everyday scene a contemplative quality. This interest in the surroundings of Cizur forms the core of his series “Séptimo cielo” (2007–2013). Carlos Cánovas began his career as a photographer in the early 1970s, while simultaneously carrying out significant work in teaching, research, and the recovery of the history of photography in Navarre. In 1997, the IVAM dedicated the exhibition *Paisajes fugaces* to him, which brought together 176 photographs from his career. His work is included in the collections of the Museum of Navarre and the Bilbao Museum of Fine Arts, among others, and in 2020 he received the Prince of Viana Prize for Culture.
