DAVID CALLAU GENÉ (Cambrils, Tarragona, 1973). “Double-Sided,” 2010. Diptych. Mixed media on paper. Signed. Measurements: 68 x 48 cm each; 87 x 68 cm each with frame. In this diptych, Callau explores one of the recurring themes in his work: the human face rendered through a figurative style with a strong expressionist component. The facial features emerge from broad brushstrokes of blue, black, and red, along with splatters and rapidly executed graphic elements, combining drawing and painterly gesture. David Callau is a multidisciplinary artist trained at the Tarragona School of Art and the Massana School in Barcelona. His work spans painting, sculpture, murals, and installations, with a particular focus on portraiture and gestural painting characterized by intense color. He has exhibited nationally and internationally and has presented projects in cities such as Barcelona, Paris, New York, and Tokyo.
