CANEN GARCÍA (Colombia, 1975). “A Dream on a Summer Day,” 2011. Acrylic on canvas. Signed on the lower right side. Certificate of authenticity included. Measurements: 146 x 114 cm. Rural life and Latin American folk traditions inspire this composition by Canen García, featuring a figure carrying a large bunch of bananas amid lush tropical vegetation. The work stands out for its intense chromatic richness and the geometric fragmentation of its forms, which evoke the aesthetic of stained-glass windows. The hallmarks of greens, yellows, and reds—outlined by thick, dark contours—create a surface of great visual dynamism. The scene combines a depiction of daily labor with an expressive and colorful vision of Latin American cultural identity. Canen García initially trained in architecture, graduating in 1998, and furthered his artistic studies in Colombia and Spain. Based in Barcelona since 2001, he has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, both in Spain and Colombia, and has been a member of various artistic collectives. Among his accolades are the awards he received at the Contestarte competition in Bogotá in 2009 and 2010.
