ENRIQUE LEMAGNE CÁRDENAS, “Lemagne’83” (Cuba, 1983). "The Shepherd." Mixed media, acrylic on canvas. Hand-signed. Certificate of authenticity included. Measurements: 80 x 60 cm. In this work, Lemagne’83 develops a style reminiscent of abstract surrealism, in which references to African pictography and the artistic avant-garde movements of the 20th century converge, particularly the visual universe of Joan Miró. Through the interplay of shapes, lines, and colors, the artist constructs a spontaneous and expressive composition, far removed from literal representation. The title suggests a collective space that transforms into a symbolic imaginary realm, open to multiple interpretations. The freedom of gesture and the prominence of color reinforce the playful and poetic dimension of his painting. Lemagne’83’s work moves between the surreal and the poetic, exploring the symbolic and metaphysical dimensions of the 20th-century avant-garde movements. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociocultural Studies from the University of Camagüey, Cuba (2012), and furthered his education with studies in photography in 2013. His body of work combines abstraction, symbolic figuration, and diverse cultural references. Notable among his recent exhibitions are his participation at the Thomson Gallery in Zug, Switzerland (2025); the BIARCO Contemporary Art Biennial in Armenia, Colombia (2024); and “Plural” at the Vearte Gallery in Alicante (2024).
