XIMO AMIGÓ (Bonrepós i Mirambell, Valencia, 1965). "Ullar," 2004. Painted acrylic on mixed media, collage, and panel. Signed and dated on the reverse. Measurements: 100 x 100 cm, 101 x 101 cm (frame). Ximo Amigó is a prominent contemporary artist whose work is characterized by the appropriation and transformation of everyday objects into artistic media. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Polytechnic University of Valencia in 1989 and has developed a career marked by experimentation and reflection on identity, memory, and visual culture. His work has focused on the intervention of objects and traffic signs, to which he gives new meanings through painting and collage. These pieces, which in their original form convey a clear and functional message, become vehicles of artistic expression that challenge established norms and propose a new interpretation of the urban environment. Among his most recent exhibitions is “FlashBack,” presented at the Valencia City Museum from September 2024 to January 2025. In this exhibition, Amigó used 43 traffic signs as a medium to depict scenes from films that have shaped his life, such as *El Verdugo*, *Napoleon*, and *King Kong*, as well as compositions by Ennio Morricone, Hans Zimmer, and Vangelis. The exhibition offered an immersive experience that combined visual art, film, and music, inviting viewers to follow a path steeped in personal symbols and memories. Another notable exhibition was “Señas de identidad,” organized by the Bancaja Foundation in Sagunto in 2023. This exhibition brought together 40 works created between 2020 and 2023, in which Amigó reimagined traffic signs to explore basic geometric shapes such as the square, the circle, and the triangle. Through these interventions, the artist stripped the signs of their original function, transforming them into vehicles for new messages and meanings. Throughout his career, Ximo Amigó has held more than 40 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows, establishing himself as a key figure in contemporary art in the Valencian Community. His work is part of important private and institutional collections, both in Spain and abroad.
