EMILIO COBERTERA (Bishop’s Stortford, United Kingdom, 1965). Untitled. Corten steel. Edition P.A. 1/3. Signed and numbered. Measurements: 14 x 31 x 20 cm. The sculpture reflects Emilio Cobertera’s characteristic geometric language, constructed from compact volumes that are articulated through shifts, recesses, and changes in level. The artist takes advantage of the material qualities of Corten steel and its rusted surface to visually soften the severity of the forms, establishing a balance between weight, void, and horizontal projection. This exploration of geometric abstraction is a constant in his sculptural work; other works of his, also made of Corten steel, have been documented. Emilio Cobertera works in both painting and sculpture, with an essentially abstract and geometric body of work. He participated in various editions of Art Madrid, including those in 2008, 2010, and 2011, in association with the Alexandra Irigoyen Gallery. His sculptural work has also been featured in public outdoor projects, such as the International Sculpture Park in San Sebastián de los Reyes.
