Eugen Wildgatsch* (Aussig 1888 - 1958 Linz) Nudes study, ca 1930 Bromoil transfer print 30 x 21,5 cm signed Eugen Wildgatsch, as well as inscribed Studie, Br.Umdruck SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE € 450 - 900 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE € 450 Eugen Wildgatsch (1888–1958) was a photographer originally from Aussig, best known for his artfully staged nude studies. In 1912, he opened his own photography studio in Böhmisch-Leipa; he ran the business for several decades, producing portraits and studio shots alongside the nude photography for which he is particularly noted. His silver gelatin prints, dating from around 1930, reveal a keen interest in the body, movement, sculptural form, and precise lighting. After moving to Austria, Wildgatsch settled in Linz, where he passed on his expertise to a younger generation as a photography instructor. Wildgatsch’s photographic oeuvre belongs to the context of Central European nude and studio photography during the interwar period and can be linked to the work of Manassé, Madame d’Ora, and Trude Fleischmann. Like these photographers, Wildgatsch combined classical studio photography with an increasingly modern conception of the human body, placing central importance on lighting, pose, movement, and meticulous staging. His silver gelatin prints from around 1930 demonstrate a strong interest in physicality, sculptural form, and the photographic rendering of the nude figure. Also associated with this era are photographers such as László Willinger, Hans Madensky, and Selma Genthe, whose work likewise occupies the space between artistic nude studies, movement photography, and modern studio aesthetics. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights and platform fee. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid, the buyer's premium and platform fee. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
