Rebecca Horn* (Michelstadt 1944 - 2024 Bad König) Glove, 1986 color lithography/paper 31 x 41 cm signed R.Horn, dated 1986 numbered 31/120 SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE € 200 - 300 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE € 200 Rebecca Horn was a German sculptor, performance and installation artist, and filmmaker. She is considered one of the defining and internationally acclaimed figures in contemporary art since the late 1960s. Her body of work encompasses body-related objects, kinetic sculptures, spatial installations, drawings, paintings, and films. Horn studied at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg from 1964 to 1969. She first gained recognition for wearable "body extensions" made of fabric, feathers, metal, or wood—objects that simultaneously protect, restrict, and extend the body. Works such as Einhorn (Unicorn, 1970/72) combine performance, poetry, and a surreal visual language. From the 1970s onwards, she developed mechanically driven sculptures and installations—her so-called "art machines." Through movement and sound, instruments, feathers, mirrors, and everyday objects create poetic, theatrical situations that explore themes of physicality, memory, vulnerability, and desire. Concurrently, Horn created films such as Der Eintänzer (1978), La Ferdinanda (1982), and Buster’s Bedroom (1990). Horn received numerous awards and began teaching at the Berlin University of the Arts in 1989. In 1993, she became a member of the Academy of Arts and was the subject of a major retrospective at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. She passed away on September 6, 2024, in Bad König. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights and platform fee. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
