Bernar Venet* (born 1941 in Château-Arnoux-Saint-Auban) Combinaison aléatoire de lignes indéterminées, 2004 lithography/paper 28,5 x 43,5 cm signed Bernar Venet, dated 2004 numbered 16/40 SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE € 1000 - 2000 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE € 1000 Bernar Venet is a French conceptual artist and sculptor, as well as a significant figure in contemporary French art, conceptual art, Minimalism, and *Nouveau Réalisme*. Following his early tar paintings, charcoal works, and conceptual pieces, he developed a distinctive artistic language that integrates industrial materials, scientific methods, and mathematical structures. His monumental Corten steel sculptures—along with his works on paper, installations, and so-called *Accidents*—revolve around themes of geometry, numerical systems, chance and order, and the relationship between line, space, and movement. He is particularly renowned for the *Lignes indéterminées* (Indeterminate Lines), *Arcs*, and *Angles* series, in which the line appears as an element that is simultaneously autonomous, sculptural, and mathematical. Venet’s art is associated with the dematerialization of the artwork, process art, and scientific-mathematical art. His key artistic peers and points of reference include Arman, Yves Klein, and Ben Vautier, as well as Robert Filliou, George Maciunas, and George Brecht—figures linked to Fluxus and the *École de Nice*. During his time in New York, he engaged deeply with Minimalism and maintained connections with artists such as Donald Judd, Sol LeWitt, Carl Andre, Dan Flavin, Robert Morris, Richard Serra, and Joseph Kosuth. Through his large-scale steel sculptures for public spaces, Venet combines conceptual rigor with monumental presence, leaving a lasting mark on the evolution of abstract sculpture. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights and platform fee. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
