Giselbert Hoke* (Warnsdorf 1927 - 2015 Klagenfurt) Loving couple (Berserk), 1974 oil/fiber board 84,5 x 111 cm signed G. Hoke, dated 74 listed in Hoke Werkschau, work number 19740000-006 SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE € 8000 - 10000 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE € 8000 Giselbert Hoke, born the second of six children in northern Bohemia, was a 20th-century Austrian artist who, despite a severe war injury—he lost his right arm at the age of seventeen—forged a multifaceted career. After being a prisoner of war, he completed his secondary education and studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts in the circle of Anton Lehmden, Joannis Avramidis, Alfred Hrdlicka, and Friedensreich Hundertwasser, where he expressed his passionate nature in monumental formats. Known for watercolors, oil paintings, lithographs, frescoes, and glasswork, he created the controversial frescoes at Klagenfurt train station in 1956, which sparked an art scandal, as well as glass walls for St. Florian in Vienna, the Klagenfurt funeral hall, the University of Vienna, and a glass wheel in Coburg. From 1958 onwards, he intensified his glasswork, acquiring Saager Castle in Carinthia in 1961 as a studio and workshop, and in 1974 a professorship at the Graz University of Technology, where he headed the Institute for Artistic Design. Hoke's work combines artistic power with architectural integration and reflects influences from Egon Schiele, Herbert Boeckl, and Max Domenig. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights and platform fee. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid, the buyer's premium and platform fee. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
