Roland Goeschl* (Salzburg 1932 - 2016 Vienna) Untitled, 1969 color lithography/paper 18 x 10,5 cm signed Goeschl, dated 69 numbered 68/150 SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE € 100 - 200 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE € 100 After early training in stone and wood sculpture and restoration in Salzburg, Göschl attended the International Summer Academy in Salzburg in 1954, studying under Giacomo Manzù. From 1956 to 1960, he studied under Fritz Wotruba at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, subsequently serving as his assistant from 1963 to 1966. Starting with abstracted human figures, Göschl developed an increasingly constructive formal language in the early 1960s. A study visit to London in 1962 led to a pivotal encounter with polychrome sculpture and Pop Art. From then on, the primary colors—red, yellow, and blue—became his distinctive trademark; Göschl viewed color not merely as a surface coating applied after the fact, but as an independent, space-defining material of the sculpture itself. In the mid-1960s, he radically redefined his concept of sculpture. Using elementary forms—cuboids, planes, and modules—he created large-scale architectural structures that could only be fully experienced through the movement of the viewer. Through works such as his "Dumpings" placed in urban settings, projects for architecture and public spaces, and advertising campaigns for Humanic, he consciously blurred the boundaries between sculpture, architecture, design, and everyday life. Göschl participated in documenta III (1964) and documenta IV (1968) in Kassel. He began teaching at the Vienna University of Technology in 1972 and received the City of Vienna Prize for Visual Arts in 1975. His art is considered a pioneering contribution to the synthesis of Concrete Art, Pop Art, Kinetic Art, and site-specific sculpture in Austria. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights and platform fee. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
