Alois Heidel* (Vienna 1915 - 1990 Vienna) Black pyramides plaster 5,5 x 13,2 x 11,5 cm SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE °€ 300 - 600 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE °€ 300 Alois Heidel was a 20th-century Austrian sculptor. After completing an apprenticeship as a belt maker and chaser, he began his studies at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts in 1943; from 1946 to 1953, he studied sculpture in Vienna under Fritz Wotruba at the University of Applied Arts. Between 1953 and 1969, Heidel created numerous sculptures for the City of Vienna, particularly for municipal housing complexes. His early works were naturalistic sculptures with simplified forms—featuring animal motifs in particular—that align with the broader context of the Viennese school of realism and Viennese sacred art. As his career progressed, his exploration of diverse materials such as cast stone, metal, and brick led him increasingly toward abstraction and non-representational sculpture, touching upon Constructivist tendencies. In terms of biography and art history, he is linked to institutions such as the Vienna Academy, the circles surrounding Karl Sterrer and Herbert Boeckl, and the Vienna Secession, as well as to long-standing traditions ranging from Impressionist landscape and portrait painting to New Objectivity. From 1975 onwards, Heidel worked as a restorer at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna; he remained a member of the Secession and was awarded the City of Vienna Prize for Visual Arts in 1962. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights and platform fee. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid, the buyer's premium and platform fee. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
