Maximilian Florian* (Klagenfurt 1901 - 1982 Klosterneuburg) Still life, around 1939 oil/canvas/board 64 x 48,5 cm SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE € 1400 - 2800 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE € 1400 Maximilian Florian was a 20th-century Austrian painter regarded as a representative of expressive realism. Born in Klagenfurt in 1901, he initially took drawing lessons with Albert Zahlbruckner and trained as a goldsmith before studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Karl Sterrer and Rudolf Bacher from 1922 to 1930. Within the circle of the Carinthian Group, which also included Herbert Boeckl, Franz Wiegele and Anton Kolig, he developed his position within modern art. Florian created landscapes, still lifes, portraits and figure compositions, as well as works in the field of graphic art; his art oscillates between expressive condensation and representational clarity. His proximity to Nötsch in the Gailtal valley and the artistic renewal taking place there is just as significant for his work as his connection to the Vienna Secession and the group Der Kreis. His works can be found, amongst other places, in the Austrian Gallery Belvedere, the Albertina and the Carinthian State Museum. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights and platform fee. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid, the buyer's premium and platform fee. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
