Lois Pregartbauer* (Misselsdorf 1899 - 1971 Vienna) Lübeck oil/fiber board 48,,5 x 68 cm signed Lois Pregartbauer verso signed and inscribed Lois Pregartbauer Lübeck SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE € 500 - 1000 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE € 500 Lois Pregartbauer (Alois, Louis, Luis Pregartbauer; 1899 Misselsdorf – 1971 Vienna), Austrian painter and draftsman, briefly studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, the Vienna University of Technology, and the Vienna School of Applied Arts, supplemented by private lessons with Otto Erich Wagner (Vienna Kineticism) and stage designer Remigius Geyling – but was essentially self-taught. A member of the Hagenbund Vienna (1931–1938), the Vienna Künstlerhaus (1938–1945, from 1963), and the Vienna Secession (1946–1963), his work remained committed to representational art: from the New Objectivity of the 1930s to constructivist tendencies after 1945. His mastery lay in charcoal drawing and pastel painting, with motifs from Austrian landscapes, cityscapes, and sacred art. In 1937, he co-founded the collective for the magazine "Plan," which was banned in 1938 and republished in 1945. In 1946, he contributed to the founding program of the Linz Art School (Karl Hauk served as president from 1947 to 1949). Professionally employed in the technical department of the Vienna Transport Authority (1913–1950) and serving as a soldier in both World Wars, he designed posters, book covers, and murals. Stylistically, Pregartbauer combined Styrian Modernism with influences from Rudolf Bacher and Karl Sterrer (Graz Art Association); his oeuvre, oscillating between Expressionism and Objectivity, poetically reflects the interwar period. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights and platform fee. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
