Willy Eisenschitz* (Vienna 1889 - 1974 Paris) Willy Eisenschitz and Claire Bertrand-Eisenschitz painting, 1936 oil/canvas 54 x 73,5 cm SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE € 6000 - 12000 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE € 6000 Willy Eisenschitz, an Austrian-French painter of the 20th century from a Jewish family, studied at the Vienna Academy from 1911 and in 1912 went to the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Montparnasse, where he married Claire Bertrand. Interned during the First World War, he discovered the light of southern France in 1921, which transformed his painting from Impressionism to Expressionism – influenced by Anton Faistauer, Ferdinand Andri, Karl Mediz, Egon Schiele, and Oskar Kokoschka. A member of the Société Nationale des Beaux Arts, he exhibited at the Salon d’Automne, at Durand-Ruel, and in the Toulon Museum; contacts with Josef Floch, Viktor Tischler, Georg Merkel, and Walter Bondy shaped his circle. From Dieulefît, he moved to La Valette-du-Var near Toulon. From 1951 onwards, he traveled to Ibiza, and later to Provence and Paris. His oil paintings, watercolors, still lifes, nudes, and landscapes capture the light of southern France.
