Marlene Giesenhoffer-Zeitler (Biographical data unknown) Composition, c. 1920/21 mixed media/paper 24,5 x 15,7 cm monogrammed M. G. Z. SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE € 400 - 800 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE € 400 Little is known to date about the biography of Marlene Giesenhoffer-Zeitler. What has survived are abstract watercolors—datable to the years 1920–1924—that bear witness to a remarkably distinctive artistic style. Most of her works are monogrammed, and some are also dated. In terms of their formal language, they reveal a fascinating affinity with the concurrent currents of abstract modernism: geometric constructions and crystalline planes are reminiscent of Cubism and Viennese Kineticism, while dynamic compositions and striking, sharply pointed forms evoke the visual language of Futurism. The work of Erika Giovanna Klien also offers an illuminating point of comparison, particularly regarding the combination of geometric abstraction, movement, and the rhythmic structuring of the pictorial surface. Within the diverse artistic developments of the early 1920s, Giesenhoffer-Zeitler’s watercolors thus occupy a distinctive position that has received little scholarly attention to date. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights and platform fee. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid, the buyer's premium and platform fee. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
